Who we are
newsintel.org is owned and operated by Highly Performant Limited, a limited liability company in the Masdar City Free Zone, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (license MC 13910). Address: Smart Station, First Floor, Incubator Building, Masdar City, Abu Dhabi, UAE. Contact: hello@newsintel.org.
This policy covers newsintel.org: the public pages, your account, and the digests and alerts we email.
Highly Performant Limited is the controller of the personal data described here.
What we collect
You can read every public page without an account.
On the site
- Server logs: the time of a request, the page asked for, the referring page, the IP address and the browser's user agent.
- Campaign tags: if the link that brought you here carries campaign tags (UTM parameters), your browser keeps them in a cookie, and they are stored with your account if you sign up.
- Digest list: if you sign up for a digest, your email address, the digests you chose, and when you confirmed or unsubscribed.
- The emails you send us.
In your account
- Account: your email address and name. There are no passwords: you sign in with a single-use link sent to your email.
- Sign-in sessions: the IP address and browser user agent of each session.
- Watchlists and alerts: the companies you watch, your alert rules, the alerts sent to you, and the address of any webhook you add.
- Teams: the name of your team, and the email addresses and roles of the people you invite.
- Plan and billing: your plan, its status and dates, and the customer and subscription IDs and payment events Dodo Payments sends us, which include the name and email address on the payment. We never see or store your card details.
- Exports: how many CSV rows you export each month.
Why we use it
We never sell personal data, and the site shows no ads.
We use server logs to run and secure the site (legitimate interest). We use your emails to answer you (legitimate interest). We use account data to provide the service you asked for (contract): to sign you in, run your plan, and send the alerts you set up.
Digest emails rest on your consent: you confirm the sign-up, and every digest has a link to unsubscribe. We use campaign tags and the tags of section 5 to learn which campaigns bring people who sign up (legitimate interest).
Who else handles it
- Hetzner Online GmbH: the server in the United States (Hillsboro, Oregon) that runs the site, its database and its background jobs, and the backups in its object storage in Germany.
- Resend: sends our email: sign-in links, digests, alerts and team invitations.
- Dodo Payments: sells paid plans as the merchant of record. It takes the payment, holds your card details and handles sales tax and VAT.
- Google: Google Analytics 4 and the Google Ads conversion tag on the home page and the pricing page (see Cookies and tags).
- Fireworks AI: runs the language models that help us read public records, such as SEC filings and WARN notices. They get the records, not data about our users.
- OpenRouter and the model providers it routes each request to: the same work as Fireworks AI, on the same public records.
- Firecrawl: fetches public web pages for us, such as state WARN listings.
- Our mailbox provider handles email sent to hello@newsintel.org and corrections@newsintel.org.
Each gets only what it needs for its part of the work. Some of these providers process data outside the UAE, the UK and the EU, including in the United States.
Cookies and tags
The site sets two cookies of its own:
- a sign-in cookie while you are signed in (a session lasts 7 days);
- a campaign tags cookie (90 days), only when the link that brought you to the site carries UTM parameters.
Your browser also remembers whether you chose the light or dark theme, in its own storage. That choice is not sent to us.
The home page and the pricing page can load two tags from Google. No other page loads them. When they are switched on, your browser loads Google's script from googletagmanager.com, sends what the tags record straight to Google, and Google sets its own cookies.
- Google Analytics 4 counts visits: which of the two pages you opened, the page that sent you there, and general details of your browser and device.
- The Google Ads conversion tag records that you clicked a plan button or sent the digest sign-up form on one of those pages, so we can tell which ads bring people who sign up.
The site does not ask before loading these tags. To stop Google Analytics on every site, use Google's opt-out add-on. A browser setting or extension that blocks Google's scripts stops both tags. Google explains what it does with this data and how to limit it on how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
Before we add any other analytics or advertising tag to the site, this page will name it.
How long we keep it
- Account data, watchlists, alert rules, webhooks and team details: while your account is open. Deleting your account removes them.
- Sign-in sessions: until you sign out, or 7 days at most.
- Digest list: until you unsubscribe. We then keep your address marked as unsubscribed, so we never email it again.
- Billing records: as long as tax and accounting law requires, also after you delete your account.
- Web server access logs: 14 days. App logs: small files that rotate as they fill, so older lines are overwritten. We never copy logs elsewhere.
- Backups of the database: 30 days, so data you delete is gone from our backups within 30 days.
- Emails you send us: as long as we need them to answer you and follow up.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of your data, a correction, deletion, or that we stop using it, by writing to hello@newsintel.org from the email address of your account. You can also delete your account yourself in Settings, and leave a digest by the link in any digest. We answer within a month.
US state privacy rights
If you live in a US state with a consumer privacy law, such as California, you can ask to know what personal data we hold about you, to get a copy, and to have it corrected or deleted. We will not treat you differently for asking.
We do not sell personal data. The Google Ads conversion tag tells Google that a visit led to a sign-up, and some state laws may count that as sharing for targeted advertising. To opt out, block Google's scripts as Cookies and tags explains.
People named in public records
Company pages show the names and titles of executives as they appear in SEC filings, and WARN notices as employers filed them. These come from public records. If one is wrong, write to corrections@newsintel.org.
Security
The site is served over HTTPS. Sign-in links work once and expire after 15 minutes. Team invitation links are stored only as a hash. Card details go to Dodo Payments, never to our servers. Alerts sent to a webhook are signed, so you can check they came from us.
Children
NewsIntel is for adults. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.
Changes
When this policy changes, we update this page and the date at the top. If a change reduces your rights, account holders get an email first.
Contact
Write to hello@newsintel.org. For a wrong fact on a company page, write to corrections@newsintel.org.
Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, please write to us first. You may also complain to the UAE Data Office, the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), a data protection authority in the EU, or the attorney general of your US state.
